Where do I get the STM card and how do I top it up?

The STM card is issued at the STM Customer Service Offices. The list of offices is on montevideo.gub.uy, on the STM offices page.

How to top up

1. At an STM customer service office.
2. From your phone or computer, with “STM en línea”, for the regular card or the retiree card.
3. With the postpaid option, which charges each trip to your account or card.

According to the STM page, you can top up the regular card with between 100 and 8,000 pesos. Students can top up at any authorized office.

To check the balance or top up, use the official STM channels. Garita doesn't manage your card or your balance.

• How do I pay for the bus in Montevideo?With the STM card, tapping it on the machine, or in cash when you board. The one-hour and two-hour tickets cost more if you pay in cash.
