Terms of use

By using Garita (garita.uy) you accept these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use it.

This is a translation. If there is any difference, the Spanish version applies.

1. What Garita is

Garita is a free web app that shows on a map the buses of Maldonado, Montevideo, Canelones, San José, Rivera, Colonia and Rocha, and the intercity buses leaving from Tres Cruces, and estimates how long until they reach each stop. No account is needed. It’s in beta: it can fail and it’s still being tuned.

2. Garita is independent

Garita doesn’t belong to any bus company or to any intendencia (departmental government), and doesn’t speak for any of them. Timetables, routes, fares and complaints about the bus service belong to each company or to whoever publishes them.

3. The data and the minutes

Each company or intendencia publishes where its buses are. That data may arrive late, be missing or be wrong. The minutes Garita shows are approximate.

We don’t guarantee that the information is exact or up to date, or that Garita is always available. If being on time matters, don’t use it as your only source.

4. Acceptable use

By using Garita, you agree not to:

  • Use the URLs Garita loads its data from in other programs, or automate requests: they are not a public API.
  • Try to overload the site, get into places you shouldn’t, or interfere with how it works.
  • Copy Garita to present it as another app.

The data Garita shows is for your personal use, through the app. Extracting it automatically or reusing it without written permission from nosto.studio is not allowed.

We may limit or block access for anyone who doesn’t follow this.

5. Intellectual property

The code, design, name and brand Garita belong to nosto.studio.

Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License (ODbL), and the map is © CARTO. Bus data belongs to each company or intendencia that publishes it, and their names and brands are theirs.

6. No warranties

Garita is offered as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. It may have errors, change or stop working without notice.

7. Liability

To the extent the law allows, nosto.studio is not responsible if you miss your bus or arrive late, or for damages coming from incorrect or outdated information, service interruptions or decisions made based on what Garita shows.

8. Privacy

What data goes through Garita and what we do with it is in the privacy policy.

In short: there are no accounts and we don’t ask for your data, but we do look at how the app is used to fix what isn’t clear. Anything that uses cookies, we ask first, and if you say no, it doesn’t load.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. You’ll see it in the date at the top, and if the change is important we’ll also say so in the app. Continuing to use Garita after a change means accepting it.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. Any dispute is settled before the courts of Maldonado, and before that we’d rather you write to us to sort it out in good faith.
